The objective pursued by this initiative is to monitor the activities carried out by IBIMET in 2017-2018 on the monitoring of ALAN and the organization of public events to raise awareness about light pollution and its effect on the environment. The final result of this activity was the organization of the symposium on protection and promotion of the night sky held on the island of Capraia, from 13 to 14 September 2018, in collaboration with the University of Pisa and Attivarti.org and with the support of the Stars4all project.

All these activities aroused the interest of the local administrators of the island of Capraia in the Parco Nazionale dell’Arcipelago Toscano and of a natural park in the continent Parco Regionale Migliarino S. Rossore Massaciuccoli (PMSMR) with which a plan was launched to assess the level of light pollution and take into consideration measures to improve the quality of the night sky in order to obtain international certification. The first concrete action towards this objective was the installation of two sky quality meters (SQM) at Parco Regionale Migliarino S. Rossore Massaciuccoli in October.
